The Learning Space Childcare Centres Auckland

The foundation to The Learning Space philosophy is born from relationships; equal partnerships between children, caregivers, whanau and community and the environment. These relationships are established on the culture of kindness, through caregiving moments and our daily interactions.

Children are valued as free and equal human beings who are at all times allowed to tune into their bodies and into their play. Children are supported to develop and explore in their own time and at their readiness.

Through our everyday environment we offer each child the ‘known’ through consistency, taking time and reciprocal communication. Our teachers role model the centre values within their practice; their journeys enriched with passion and joy as they learn alongside one another. This empowers the child to fulfill their rights for expression in many different ways, creating opportunities to discover their individual identities.

Parent and whanau participation is fundamental for future extension of the daily life of The Learning Space, embracing partnership with both local and wider communities and celebrating the rich diversity of the languages and cultural significance that families bring to our everyday experiences.

At The Learning Space we recognise Te Whaariki as our curriculum document and acknowledge the Treaty of Waitangi and the partnership we have with Maori children and whanau. We are strongly inspired by the principles and practices of Emmi Pikler and the Reggio Emilia philosophy.

Our Values

Culture of Kindness

The word ‘kindness’ speaks of the heart and is easily understood by all. Through our care moments, daily practice and interactions with one another and the environment our unique identities and culture as a community is established.

To be present

“Children are our real teachers. Listen carefully. Watch carefully. They will teach you about the lost world of carefree living in the Present Moment.” –Tibetan saying

Learning as a journey

Learning is navigated by a child’s journey. Through this journey we encourage each individual to explore, to discover, and to wonder and question in their play, while supporting their thinking and curiosity. The learning journey is filled with passion and joy.

The adult in the relationship acknowledges the child as a free and equal human being, an equal partner in the relationship.
